We Baptized The Whole Family

Hi Family!

It was so so great talking to you guys yesterday! Sorry today probably won´t be very long because I basically told you everything yesterday! We had our baptisms! They were so awesome.
Thursday Baptisms

Elders and Sisters

Today I wasn´t able to get a camera card off to you because we were helping the sister missionaries in my district move apartments all day. And I ran out of money paying for the bus! We´ll get more money again on Thursday, and then I´ll send one off to you guys! God has put some trials in front of me the last little while to make us prove our faith, but everything seems to be getting better.. I was so grateful to have baptized this family this past week. We had to baptize them on Thursday because the mom had to work on Saturday. It was a little different, but there were 50 members there! They are all so excited about missionary work, and I can just feel things are all going to continue to grow here. I baptized the 18 year-old son and the 10 year old son. Elder lopes baptized the mom and the 15 year-old daughter and we had the bishop baptize the father.   It was so awesome, and the ward did a little party for them afterwards for their wedding and baptism.

We ended up having 3 investigators at church on Sunday. There was no bus to pick people up this week and it was pouring rain. I guess the true elect will come no matter what, and those are the 3 that we really need to focus on.. Rough night last night for sure, I hated saying goodbye to all of you. That is what we call a TRUNKY NIGHT. I was kinda bummed that we weren´t able to talk to Nance, but it was so fun talking to Phelps and Trevor. I feel bad for my buddy Phelps. He´s such a great missionary, but he´s having some trials of faith right now.

The transfer came through today, and I´ll be here for at least one more transfer with Elder Lopes. Elder Lipps was transferred, but elder Cuadra will still be here with us. I love that guy! He´s the little Chilean behind me in the picture of the “mudanca” this morning. He´ll finally be a senior companion and his new companion is Elder Law, from California. He goes home soon.   Hopefully we´ll be able to inspire him to finish his mission off strongly.

It sounds like mom had a good time with the girls on Saturday. It was so great to be able to talk to Grandma. I really want to spend a lot of time with her when I get home. She still sounds like she´s cruising around and getting a lot done. Sammie looked so FAT! She´s a cute little thing. She is for sure my best friend. We´ve got Zone Conference again next Monday, so I´ll be emailing you on Tuesday

I love all of you, I´ll email you better next week! Have a great week!

40 Lessons a Week and Rolling

How was your week?
It was really good.

How were your baptisms?
They didn´t happen... it got moved to this week. they did get married though!

How are the braces doing?  How often do you go to the orthodontist?  Is it like the orthodontist here?
The braces are doing well. My smile looks completely different! I go to the orthodontist once a month. I am allowed to go if there is some sort of problem though. Yeah it´s nothing different. it´s a college though, so there is a lot more movement in the practice. It´s cool though, and AIR CONDITIONED!

Hello Family!

I am SO excited to talk to you guys, it´s crazy! [Mothers Day]  I´m excited!  There are just so many things to talk about. The mission is going by way too quickly. So yeah, this week went really well. We are still teaching about 40 lessons a week and ROLLING. Our family wasn´t able to get baptized this week, but I know it´s because the Lord wanted them to acquire an even firmer testimony of the word of wisdom at first. We challenged another family, Carla and Anderson, to get married and they accepted too! Woohoo! So they will be baptized on June 1st along with their 2 kids. We had 12 investigators at church with us yesterday, which is my record!  And , that was without the church bus functioning properly. We had a very blessed week, and we were very humbled by it. The internet café where we´ve been going lately doesn´t let me attach pictures on these weird computers but I´ll send another camera card off to you this week.

We´ve gotten the ward really excited here and we are having family nights almost nightly with a TON of investigators each time. We´re teaching down in the ``Beco Mormon`` still. Today´s email is going to be short because I have burnt almost all of my time putting names onto the pictures. I´m sending home and transferring them to my pen drive.  Sorry! I´ll just be able to explain everything to you on Sunday though. The mission is so awesome. I am learning so much about our Savior and really trying to apply all of his teachings in my life. I love Jesus is the Christ. It´s an incredible book and I´m learning so much studying that in my free time. We are teaching the cutest older woman in the world. Her name is Eva, she´s a reference from the bishop´s wife. Her husband, Francisco, is 19 years younger. They are both super intelligent, so I love to teach them. She´s been at church the last few weeks and I can totally see her being baptized in the near future. Carlos had a little relapse, so his baptism was remarked to be this next Saturday too.   Elder Lopes is doing really well, and I am just trying to find little ways to serve him. He seems to be a lot happier about the missionary work with me, and we´re having a lot of success because of it. I finally got a Ward Council organized to where we were able to have a meeting last night with all of the leaders and combine to plan for an activity on the 25th. We´re going to do a ward talent show with popcorn. It´ll be super cheap but everyone sounded really excited about it. I´ll be playing the piano again it looks like haha.

My buddies all sound like they´re having a blast on their missions and learning a lot as well. I´m learning a ton on the guitar too, which is way cool.  Hopefully I´ll be able to sing to that one of these days, like a pro. That convention that mom went to [BYU Women’s Conference] sounds like it was really cool. I´m glad Nat got to attend that class and enjoyed it! She´s awesome. I sent them a letter in that last package I sent you so I hope they got it. Invite them over next week! I´ll shoot them an email today too!

I love all of you! I´m excited for next week! Have a great week!

I'm Just Shot! But so Excited

How was your week?
Really good, but really really really really tiring. We ran all over our giant area about 1000000000 times and now.  I´m just SHOT!  And this week will be just as hectic.

So do you still have baptisms next week?  How many?
We have the family of 5 going to get baptized on Friday night, and Carlos (the man who smoked) will be baptized either Friday or Saturday. So 6 for now, maybe more.

Hey Family!

So sorry, this week is going to be extra short! I have to go get my hair cut before bishop closes down the shop! He´s a hair stylist, so that is where all the missionaries go in this ward because he does it for free.

We had another great week. Yesterday was Stake Conference, so we had to bring all of our investigators to my last chapel, which is way far away! We still were able to have 8 of them there! We had the family of 5, Silvio and Anne, and Ruan.  Carlos wasn´t able to make it because he got a huge blister on the top of his foot and couldn´t work.  He is a construction worker, so he´s got some gnarly boots he uses. It was a good excuse though, and he accepted to be baptized this week!  We´re going to have 6 baptisms this week! SO COOL. Silvio is Carlos´ brother, and Anne is Silvio´s daughter. They are way cool and have no problems with the commandments. They might be baptized too this week, we´ll just see what happens and how the Spirit directs us to see if they´re spiritually ready yet.
Ruan is their nephew. He´s only 10 so we´ll need his mom´s permission for him to be baptized. He comes every week with his uncles and he has tons of friends at the church, so I don´t think that there will be any problems.

We have another family that we are teaching... Anderson, Carla, and Bruna. We challenged them to get married yesterday and to be baptized on the 25th of May.
They are loving the church and feeling they´re questions being answered.

One of our investigators, Helena, was rushed to the hospital this week. She had a weird infection inside of her, so she had a quick surgery done. She´s already told her daughter, Sandra (a member), that she wants to be baptized and she´s already been to church with us twice. She´ll hopefully be baptized during this month as well. My Dunham shoes are about having it, so I might have to get some new shoes soon. We´ll have to see how much longer I can get them to hold up. There are still a ton of Americans waiting for Visas to come to my mission.

I have been studying the life of Christ in the New Testament a lot lately. It really is so cool all of the little details in his teachings. You really can learn from every verse. Elder Bednar says that one study session can be just one verse going into all of the details.

Also, I thought of another package idea! Hot Chocolate mix!!! Like a hot chocolate mix from Starbucks would be amazing!   Anyways, I hope all of you have a fantastic week!
Well I love all of you! Have a great week!

Love,

Elder Shepherd

We're Seeing Miracles Here with Our Collective Faith

How many active members are there?
That´d be a hard number to put. I´d say between 80-90

Are they helping you?
They´re starting to help us quite a bit more. We´ll see how things get going.

How was your week?
It was really good again! We had 11 investigators at church again! A few new people, and a few that could make it this time. Things are really exciting in this ward and the members are helping us so much right now. With that activity that I told you about last week, people are just excited about missionary work. I also had the privilege to talk in sacrament yesterday, and I spoke about Every member a Missionary. It was good, but bishop only gave me like 6 minutes so it went by quickly.

Did some of your families keep moving along?
Yes! We also had another family there. Anderson, Carla, and Bruna. Bruna has been coming for a while, but then we gave a super spiritual message about the atonement this past week and they all came. It was awesome. We visited them last night with our Elders quorum President and his wife. Carla shared an interesting comment, she said that every time that they have prayed for guidance or peace in the home, we [the missionaries] literally come knocking within 5 minutes. They interpreted that as their answer, so we´re going to have to get them married so they can be baptized. it´s going to take a while though because they´re both from different cities, and we´re going to have to get a hold of both of their birth certificates.

Do you guys all share food or do you buy stuff and eat what you buy?
Normally we just buy our own stuff, but in this house we´ve been sharing and saving money a lot better. All 4 of us get along well, which is RARE, so I´m really enjoying this area so far.

Hi Family!
Sorry today will be short, not a lot of time. We had a really good week, like I said above. We had those two families at church, which were the majority of our investigators, and another man named Carlos. He is doing sooooo well with quitting smoking! We went there last night really quickly and he said he hadn´t put a cigarette in his mouth in two days! So so cool!
WE have family night tonight with Helena, she´s the mom of Sandra, a member. She´s been at church the last 2 weeks and last week she asked us when we could mark her baptism. So cool! We did a fast as a Ward on Saturday for all of these people. We took around names of our investigators and asked the Ward to fast with us. We´re seeing miracles here with our collective faith; it´s been pretty amazing.

The mission seems like it´s only getting better and better, yet the time is getting shorter and shorter. I feel like I´m becoming the best missionary I can possibly be, yet it´s coming up in the second year. In chapter 6 of PmG it talks about Christ-like attributes and that´s what I´ve been studying every morning for the last while. As I have learned to apply these things into my life, I am seeing more success. Not only outward success, but I am feeling happier and more in-tune with the spirit as well. That would be a chapter that would be awesome for the youth to study. I´d recommend it.  I don´t have grandma Frome´s email, but tell her happy 80th birthday for me! I love all of you!
Have a great week!

Love,
Elder Shepherd
